About the Cover

May 15, 2003; Volume 23,Issue 10

Cover image

Cover picture: Different views of brain function from the perspective of functional human imaging as reviewed in the Miniseries on Functional Brain Imaging and Human Brain Function in this issue of the Journal. At the top right is a large-scale, multi-system view of the cortical areas related to memory, from the contribution by Buckner. Beneath is a more detailed look at one cortical system, the human visual system from the review by Tootell et al. and here displayed on the flattened map of the cortical surface. Finally, at the bottom is a simultaneous comparison between functional imaging signals (blood oxygen level-dependent) and three electrophysiological parameters (local field potentials, multiunit activity, and spike density function) from the monkey visual cortex, taken from the review by Logothetis. For details, see the articles by Logothetis, Buckner, and Tootell et al. in this issue (pages 3963–3971, 3999–4004, and 3981–3989, respectively).
