About the Cover

Cover picture: Can you find the one bar in this image that has a unique combination of color and orientation, shared by none of the other bars? Finding this "odd-man-out" can be difficult, because it shares the color of some of the remaining bars and the orientation of the others. Studies using such stimuli have yielded important insights into how the brain distinguishes a visual object from the background when the object and background are similar in appearance. Find it yet? If you need a hint, look at the red bars near the center of the image. For details, see the article by Hegde and Felleman in this issue (pages 9968–9980).
