A, Scatter plot of first spike latency times show a non-monotonic relationship over a range of membrane voltages for a representative stellate cell. The bias current was adjusted to allow the cell to fire tonically at 12 Hz, and spike firing was tested using a series of preceding hyperpolarizing steps. B, Scatter plot of first spike latency times shows the non-monotonic relationship is abolished at more depolarized levels of membrane potential, and higher frequencies of tonic firing. The same cell as in A, tested after removing the bias current to allow for high frequency tonic firing (29 Hz).
