Cover legend: Illusory contours are perceived as sharp boundaries between two regions that do not differ in mean luminance or chromaticity. This image is an example of abutting line gratings that elicit perception of illusory contours. This stimulus was used inan fMRI experiment to measure orientation-selective adaptation to illusory contours in multiple visual cortical areas.
