Cover legend: Frontal view of a 3-D model depicting cortical efferent fibers of the ventral prefrontal cortex in nonhuman primates. The model was derived by first charting individual fibers following tracer injections placed in the medial (red), central (yellow), and lateral (blue) ventral prefrontal cortex. A stack of 2-D coronal sections was used to create a 3-D rendering for each case separately, then merged into a reference model containing fibers from all three injection sites. Fibers travel both ipsilaterally and contralaterally, with those derived from medial cortical regions traveling ventral to those from more lateral regions (e.g., corpus callosum).
