The image shows spinal cord myelinated fibers immunostained with anti-βIV Spectrin antibody to label the nodes of Ranvier (green), anti-Caspr antibody to label the paranodal region (blue), and anti-Kv1.2 antibody to visualize the juxtaparanodal area (red). Nodes are specialized myelin-free structures required for action potential regeneration and transmission along myelinated axons. New work reveals that the cytoskeletal scaffolding protein Ankyrin G is critical for proper organization, maturation, and stability of the nodes of Ranvier.
