This axon initial segment (AIS), imaged with stochastic optical reconstruction microscopy (STORM), was labeled for IV spectrin (magenta) and II spectrin (green) using DNA-PAINT. The image reveals a periodic cytoskeleton at the AIS consisting of II and IV spectrin.
