This image shows a mouse hippocampus 7 days after stereotactic injection of the bacterial lipopeptide Pam3CSK4 (PAM, red) into CA1. In this brain-infection model, the density of presynapses (synapsin1/2, blue) was reduced and dendrites (MAP2, green) were damaged in stratum radiatum whereas the density of presynapses was increased and the dendrites were unaffected in stratum oriens.
