This picture shows overlaid images of two 24-days-old fluorescently-labeled cultured hippocampal neurons. Presynaptic and postsynaptic neurons were labeled with distinct fluorophores. Gated STED super-resolution microscopy allowed analysis of the transsynaptic role of presynaptic a2d-2 on axon wiring and postsynaptic GABAA-receptor clustering.
