This image shows the arborizations of a TL2a tangential neuron in the lower division of the central body of the desert locust brain. These neurons are sensitive to the polarization angle of blue light as well as the direction of an unpolarized green light spot and use these properties to create an internal compass for navigation. For more information, see the article by Pegel et al. (pages 3070–3080).
