This image shows a male American Bullfrog in an Ontario, Canada, pond. This species has adapted to live at different temperatures ranging from Canada to subtropical Brazil. The large external tympanic membrane has an overlaid image of a single auditory hair cell from the amphibian papilla. Different colors show the stereocilia bundle (red), pear-shaped soma (blue) and two connected afferent fibers with thin (yellow) and thick (green) calibers.
