This image shows multiple differently colored copies of a teased myelinated nerve fiber from a regenerating sciatic nerve. In these fibers, nodes of Ranvier and Schmidt Lanterman incisures (labeled with rhodamine-conjugated phalloidin and colored magenta in the top image) are likely sites of iron transfer from Schwann cells to axonal mitochondria (immunostained for porin and colored yellow in the top image).
