This image shows a 3D reconstruction of amygdala intercalated cells (purple) interlaced by axons from temporal association cortex (green). These axons provide auditory information to the amygdala during fear conditioning. Intercalated cells were labeled using a red fluorescent protein coupled to dopamine D1 receptors and temporal cortical axons were labeled with green fluorescent protein bounded by channelrhodopsin.
