Seeing faces, bodies, artifacts, and scenes elicits activity in distinct sets of categoryselective brain regions. Multivariate pattern dependence (MVPD) shows that responses in these regions are statistically related to responses across different areas of cortex (in red, blue, yellow, and green). Analyzing activity from all category-selective regions jointly yields a new map of statistical relationships (in purple) – comparing the joint map to the maps obtained for individual categories reveals that angular gyrus combines information across multiple categories.
