About the Cover

This image shows fluorescently labeled cells in an understudied brain region called the nucleus of the lateral olfactory tract (NLOT). Sapir Penker and colleagues explored the unknown circuitry of NLOT to bring us closer to understanding its function. They specifically targeted NLOT by first injecting mice with a helper retrograde virus (red) into the olfactory bulb, and then with a g-deleted rabies virus (yellow) directly into the NLOT. Cells labeled with both viruses (yellow) are NLOT cells receiving inputs from the olfactory bulb. All cell nuclei are labeled in blue. See the article by Penker et al. for more information on NLOT circuitry and neuron characteristics. Cover image: Tamar Licht.
