About the Cover

Shown is a coronal image of the medial nucleus of the trapezoid body (MNTB) of a gerbil obtained using confocal microscopy. The MNTB is a key source of inhibition in brainstem circuits that underlie hearing. In blue is a DAPI stain for all cell nuclei, in magenta is a staining for microtubule-associated protein 2 (MAP2), and in yellow is a staining for potassium Kv7.2 channels. This staining technique confirmed expression of Kv7.2 in the MNTB and, in combination with other techniques, pointed to a mechanism for how acetylcholine may modulate the development of MNTB circuits. See the article by Sonia Weimann et al. for more information. Cover image: Sonia Weimann
