In the article “Dopamine and Norepinephrine Differentially Mediate the Exploration–Exploitation Tradeoff,” by Cathy S. Chen, Dana Mueller, Evan Knep, R. Becket Ebitz, and Nicola M. Grissom, which appeared in the October 30, 2024 issue, there are errors in figure labeling, text descriptions, and equation notation.
In Figure 1K, an asterisk appears on top of the chart during figure assembly which should be removed. All statistical results, as reported in the text, are correct; only the symbol was misplaced. The corrected figure appears below.
In the “The effect of beta-noradrenergic receptor activity on exploration was sex modulated” subsection of the Results, the second-to-last sentence transposed “males” and “females.” The corrected sentence should read “Together, these results suggested a sex-linked neuromodulatory effect of beta-noradrenergic receptor on exploration—increasing beta-noradrenergic activity decreased exploration in females and decreasing beta-noradrenergic activity decreased exploration in males.”
In the “Data analysis” subsection of the Materials and Methods, “a” was used instead of “α” in the descriptions of Equations 5 and 6. The second sentence in the fifth paragraph should read: “The parameter α is the learning rate, which determines the rate of updating RPE.”
Additionally, in the explanation of Equation 6, the sentence beginning with “The choice kernel updating…” should read “The choice kernel updating … was chosen on trial t and ac is choice kernel updating rate, characterizing choice persistence.”
The authors apologize for these errors, which do not affect the conclusions of the article. The online version has been corrected.
