2018, Journal of Biological ChemistryCitation Excerpt :However, ER stress can also activate cell death signaling pathways (32–34). In particular, IRE1α binds to TRAF2 and activates downstream ASK1, resulting in JNK and p38 MAPK activation and apoptotic cell death (14, 35, 36). In contrast, other reports indicate that interactions between IRE1α and TRAF2 and JNK activate autophagy to promote cell survival during ER stress (37).

2016, Toxicology in VitroCitation Excerpt :This imidazoline compound, in addition to blocking KATP channels (Zaitsev et al., 1999), mobilizes Ca2 + from endoplasmic reticulum stores (Efanova et al., 1998). The latter feature explains its cytotoxic effect, as it was previously reported that endoplasmic reticulum Ca2 + depletion induces endothelial cell death (Nakano et al., 2006) by activating JNK (Zhang et al., 2001). We have shown that RX871024 indeed activates JNK in proliferating cells (Zaitseva et al., 2008).
