A disruption of the laminin-β2 chain leads to abnormal outer segment elongation, abnormal ERGs as well as atypical rod photoreceptor synapse formation and apoptosis in mice (Hunter and Brunken, 1997; Hunter et al., 1992). Laminin deficits induce alterations in the development of dopaminergic neurons in the mouse retina (Denes et al., 2007).
