Lmx1b is an LIM homeodomain-containing gene that has been shown to participate in the development of many tissues, including the kidneys, limbs and the CNS (Chen et al., 1998; Asbreuk et al., 2002). In the CNS, Lmx1b is widely expressed and participates in the differentiation of neurons in different areas such as the subthalamic nucleus, the substantia nigra, the pons and the dorsal part of the spinal cord (Asbreuk et al., 2002).
