Abstract
Lesions in the amygdaloid nuclei have different effects on male and female monkeys. While there is typically a redirection in aggressive behavior, and changes in sexual behavior, there are also instances of heightened aggressivity. This paradoxical effect appears to be restricted to females. Evidence exists linking this sex difference to gonadal hormones and differential aspects of the central nervous system in the male and the female.
