  • Multisensory processes in birds: From single neurons to the influence of social interactions and sensory loss

    2022, Neuroscience and Biobehavioral Reviews
    Citation Excerpt :

For example, auditory information through tape tutoring is as efficient as live tutoring in song sparrows (Melospiza melodia) and swamp sparrows (Melospiza georgiana), but this is not true for other species (Catchpole and Slater, 2003). For highly social birds like zebra finches (Taeniopygia guttata), song is better learned from live tutors than from song playback (Eales, 1989; Slater, 1988). This raises the question of whether visual and acoustic information provided by the adult tutor during interactions can promote the song learning process.
