Object memory impairment at post-drug Day 15 but not at Day 1 after a regimen of repeated treatment with oral methylphenidate
2014, Neuroscience LettersCitation Excerpt :The intent was to avoid the influence of any early drug withdrawal effects on the memory tests. The focus was on potential neuroadaptations that might be detectable when the drug was no longer in the animals’ systems, as has been shown for cocaine [23] and amphetamine [18]. Time-dependent effects such as these led us to hypothesize that the delay between the last dose of MPH in a chronic regimen and the performance of the object recognition task might be an important variable in task outcome, and might explain the occasional failure to find memory impairment following treatment with MPH when the investigators conducted a memory test within the first 1–3 days of drug washout (i.e., during the earliest phase of withdrawal) (e.g., [22,25]).
