Standards for passenger comfort in automated vehicles: Acceleration and jerk
2023, Applied ErgonomicsCitation Excerpt :Whereas the choice to perform the experiments in eyes-closed conditions allows for generalization of the findings to other seating positions and arrangements, the experience of comfort may differ when an out-the-window view is available. Although the visual system is not adept at perception of accelerations per se (Peter et al., 1992), it was apparent from debriefings that participants found the fact that the motions were unpredictable in itself uncomfortable. It is therefore likely that having an out-the-window view could reduce discomfort in situations where it allows anticipation of events.
