Neuronostatin encoded by the somatostatin gene regulates neuronal, cardiovascular, and metabolic functions
2008, Journal of Biological ChemistryCitation Excerpt :The ability of both human and mouse neuronostatin to stimulate the proliferation and SRE-luciferase activity in KATO-III cells at nm levels suggests mediation by specific receptors. Somatostatin and cortistatin peptides interact with five somatostatin receptors (6-8) to activate the inhibitory Gi protein (41) and GH release. Although one cannot completely rule out interactions between neuronostatin and somatostatin receptors, we demonstrated that neuronostatin, unlike somatostatin, does not stimulate Gi signaling mediated by the somatostatin receptors.
