Different preparations, doses, and treatment regimens of cyclosporine a cause adverse effects but no robust changes in seizure thresholds in rats
2015, Epilepsy ResearchCitation Excerpt :Indeed, contrary results are available from in vivo investigations in rodents regarding the modulation of seizure susceptibility by CsA. Some studies revealed proconvulsant effects (Asanuma et al., 1995b; Famiglio et al., 1989; Fujisaki et al., 2002; Racusen et al., 1988, 1990; Setkowicz et al., 2004; Shuto et al., 1999; Yamauchi et al., 2005), while others showed anticonvulsant effects by CsA treatment (Asanuma et al., 1995a; Homayoun et al., 2002; Jung et al., 2012; Moia et al., 1994; Setkowicz and Ciarach, 2007). Similarly, several in vitro studies also revealed either an initiation or increase (Gorji et al., 2002; Wong and Yamada, 2000) or a decrease (Jung et al., 2012) of epileptiform activity in brain slice recordings in response to CsA.
