2013, Hearing ResearchCitation Excerpt :Many large cells in the superior vestibular nucleus and Deiter's nucleus expressed calretinin, and were contacted or enclosed by calbindin-positive fibers from the vestibular nerve (Popratiloff and Peusner, 2007; Belekhova et al., 2008). A large population of neurons in the descending nucleus was found to be calretinin- and calbindin-negative while many of the large neurons were calretinin-positive (Rogers, 1989). In geckos, calcium-binding proteins exhibited specific distribution patterns in both auditory (Yan et al., 2010) and vestibular nuclei.

2009, NeuroscienceCitation Excerpt :Comparison with these studies leaves little doubts that the cells revealed by the ChAT antiserum applied here are indeed the well known cholinergic, or starburst amacrine cells. CR as a novel calcium binding protein and an antiserum against CR was first described by Rogers (1987, 1989). Application of this antiserum to the rat retina revealed a characteristic labeling of amacrine cells, displaced amacrine cells, ganglion cells and of three dendritic strata in the inner plexiform layer (IPL) (Pasteels et al., 1990).
