2022, Journal of EthnopharmacologyRole of the cAMP–PKA–CREB–BDNF pathway in abnormal behaviours of serotonin transporter knockout mice
2022, Behavioural Brain ResearchCitation Excerpt :The cAMP–PKA–CREB–BDNF pathway is an important integrator of various neuromodulator actions, and several studies have shown that this signalling pathway is involved in anxiety, depression and the pathogenesis of cognitive function impairment [32–34]. Previous studies on humans indicated that the expression level of cAMP is lower in patients with depression than in those without depression, and the use of chronic instead of acute forms of anti-depressants can upregulate cAMP signals [35–38]. In our preliminary study, bus drivers with the 5-HTTLPR (S/S) genotype scored higher in extraversion, psychosis and neuroticism than those with other isotopic genotypes, and they were more likely to have risky driving behaviours [39,40].
The effects of magnesium supplementation on serum level of brain derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and depression status in patients with depression
2021, Clinical Nutrition ESPENCitation Excerpt :Most studies reported increases of BDNF levels after antidepressant treatment [38]. Previous human postmortem studies showed decreased BDNF expression or CREB immunoreactivity in the brains of participants with major depression who had not been treated with antidepressants, but those who were treated with antidepressant drugs had increased BDNF expression and CREB in the brain [39,40]. The results of some studies indicate that different antidepressants have a variable effect on serum BDNF levels.
