Distribution of 5-HT receptors in the central nervous system: an update
2020, Handbook of Behavioral NeuroscienceCitation Excerpt :Caudate-putamen and nucleus accumbens in the rat present high density of [3H]-MDL100,907-binding sites (López-Giménez et al., 1997), whereas in the monkey, these nuclei present very low and homogeneous densities (López-Giménez et al., 2001b). In the human, 5-HT2A receptors show a characteristic patchy pattern with strong labeling corresponding to striosomes (López-Giménez, Mengod, Palacios, & Vilaró, 1999), similar to that observed in the mouse caudate-putamen (Rioux et al., 1999). The 5-HT2A receptor gene has been cloned from several mammalian species and the presence and distribution of its mRNA have been determined in the rat brain (Mengod, Pompeiano, Martinez-Mir, & Palacios, 1990b; Mijnster et al., 1997; Pompeiano, Palacios, & Mengod, 1994; Wright, Seroogy, Lundgren, Davis, & Jennes, 1995), the primate brain (López-Giménez et al., 2001b; Mengod et al., 2006), and the human brain (Burnet et al., 1995; Pasqualetti et al., 1996).

2015, Behavioural Brain ResearchRestoration of cocaine stimulation and reward by reintroducing wild type dopamine transporter in adult knock-in mice with a cocaine-insensitive dopamine transporter
2014, NeuropharmacologyCitation Excerpt :Knockout mice with each of the transporters disrupted individually still exhibit the rewarding effect of cocaine in conditioned place preference (CPP) and/or cocaine self-administration experiments (Rocha et al., 1998; Sora et al., 1998; Xu et al., 2000), suggesting that none of the these transporters are required for cocaine reward. However, the knock-out mice showed very significant adaptive changes to compensate for the lack of an important transporter (Giros et al., 1996; Bengel et al., 1998; Rocha et al., 1998; Sora et al., 1998; Li et al., 1999; Rioux et al., 1999; Xu et al., 2000). We have made a knock-in mouse line carrying a functional but cocaine-insensitive dopamine transporter (DAT-CI mice) (Wu and Gu, 2003; Chen et al., 2006).
