Abstract

PIP: This article focuses on the role of "the youth coalition on the ICPD+5" in the national decision making. As members of official and NGO delegations at the PrepCom in New York, youth advocates suggested various amendments to the text of the working paper that would place strong emphasis on young people and their needs. One of the imperatives suggested was that at least 20% of donor allocations to reproductive health programs should be earmarked to meet the information and service needs of adolescents. Youth delegates in the Hague conference discussed the progress in the International Conference on Population and Development program of action, concentrating on education, development of the individuals, sexual and reproductive health and violence including issues on human rights, gender, governments, democracy and youth participation. Furthermore, youth stressed that laws and policies should be introduced to identify and reduce gender inequalities to ensure that young people receive the best quality education, services, and information irrespective of gender and age.
